While the world’s focus has turned to disaster relief in Haiti, the Sacred Valley in Peru was hit hard last week with flooding and heavy rains that destroyed much of the infrastructure and community that Kelsey, Jarrard, and I came to love last summer.
Pictures and information on the flooding can be found here.
Awamaki is raising money to help re-build the road, bridges, homes, and fields that were destroyed in the storms. Please consider making a donation to support the Ollantaytambo community at the Awamaki website, or contacting the organization to see how you can help.

So sorry to hear about he Peru floods and losses in the recent rains.
I have had the great blessing to have visited Machu Picchu twice, and it is an amazing site. I do hope there was no damage there, but since the river is so close to the road I can see how there could be damage to the road caused by the raging river.
It is so unfortunate that this happened after the Haiti earthquakes because the world attention is already captured by one disaster bigger than any one country can bear.
The media attention is focused on Haiti, and I only heard about the trouble in Peru via e-mail updates from friends.
We are all one people, and what hurts one, hurts us all. May we all be able to help each other as we best can.
Blessings to us all,
Carolyn
